Project 9 – Portfolio

Project Corrections

I used the full two hours to make corrections on almost all of my assignments from the semester:

Flier: Changed the periods in between the date, time and place. Scaled down the text and images to increase the amount of whitespace.

Event Ad: Center aligned the body text. Reduced the size of the title, moved alignment so it was in a single line, and moved it up higher in the circle.

Montage: Moved the signature line closer to other text. Reduced the size of the “glow” around Christ’s head and shoulders.

Logo: Reduced the size of “watch me” and moved the letter in “CROSSFIT” closer to the kettlebell.

Business Card: Aligned the bottom of the contact information. Reduced the size of the logo and moved contact information up to provide more whitespace at bottom of card.

Letterhead: Removed the footer. Replaced with solid color and added large, more transparent version of the logo to center of page.

Brochure: Moved logo on back of brochure so it was centered. Changed the text wrap and position of the bee on the “Why Help Bees?” page.

Message

I wanted to make a portfolio that was cool and modern. I’m not much of a designer, but I am a good developer so I wanted to keep things looking clean and organized, kind of like my code. I liked the idea of using different simple patterns in my design but I wanted to keep them boxed in so my design wouldn’t get cluttered.

Audience

The audience would be potential employers or anyone interested in my design work.

Top Thing Learned

I think the most valuable thing I learned was how to use the master pages! They definitely make things a LOT easier when you have a large number of pages to edit. While each of my pages have different colors and designs, the basic structure was the same so I was able to take advantage of the master pages.

Future Application of Visual Media

I think that I will definitely use the visual media skills I’ve acquired to help with my web development projects. While I might now have to print my designs anytime soon, I think that the process of creating a design definitely translates to web design and development. I also think that I will use many of the Photoshop and Illustrator skills I’ve acquired to format images for my web projects.

Color Scheme and Color Names

For my color scheme I used 3 colors which is a variation of the Split Complementary color scheme:

Teal, #047083

Orange, #ED8222

Brown, #5A4C43

Title Font Name & Category

Acumin Pro, Sans Serif

Copy Font Name & Category

Minion Pro, Serif

Thumbnails of Images Used and Sources

I did not use any images in my portfolio design. All design elements were created in InDesign.

I love your portfolio design! Very creative but simple. I think it goes well with the rest of your designs. Great job!

  2. Ele, I love your Portfolio. I turned every page and loved how you colored your headers and changed the graphics. I learned something new just looking at your. I wish I had thought to use the banners across my discription pages the way you did. I just wrote stuff out. I wish I had thought of that. Now I will go back and redo mine now that I have seen yours. It was suggested to me that I should change every page to be a different color and now I see that it looks great doing that. I was afraid to because of being to busy. I have allot to learn. Thanks!

    Hello Ele,
Always doing amazing . I really enjoy the formality of your portfolio. What I like most about it is that it doesnt distract from your projects, and is really well sectioned. Headings and subheadings are readable and also the body copy. Congrats !
