Description

This week we had to create an original logo to use for a cohesive letterhead and business card design using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills)

I started the process by thinking of business ideas that I could design a logo for. This was the longest part of the process for me, but I decided to do a Japanese travel agency. I then created a simple logo in InDesign and copied that logo into a two page InDesign document. On the first page I created my letterhead design and then I created a front and back design for my business card on the second page. After receiving some good critiques I made some adjustments to my design’s alignment and I also added in some information that I was missing. I adjusted my design so that it could be used as a template and that other employee information could easily be switched out for my name, title, phone number and email information.

Message

This design was created for a Japanese travel agency that operates in Japan. The address information is printed in both English and Japanese since they would be doing business in multiple countries.

Audience

The audience would be potential clients for the business agency as well as others that the travel agency communicates with through mail.

Top Thing Learned

One of the best things I learned was the Scale tool in InDesign. I’d used InDesign a little bit before this project, but I always had a hard time dealing with text since it doesn’t transform automatically like in Illustrator. The solution to this is using the Scale tool and it came in really handy when adjusting sizes on my business card and letterhead.

  1. Nice job, I like your cherry blossom, I assume it is a cherry blossom since hayai is Japaneses. I think your color choice was perfect. I like the two different languages, I think that worked well. Overall, a very nice feel to the project. here is Sheena’s project https://duf09003.wordpress.com/2016/02/28/project-6-stationery/

  2. Hi Ele, I am writing a comment to your post this week, I thing your border is so cute. I thought that you did a really nice job coordinating the border with the logo, repetition
here for sure. I liked your font also. It has a feeling of the islands to me because of the flower itself. I say how you had done the page with the business cards printed very large and easy to read. Over all, I think you did a really nice job. I really had thought that the border was perfect for the whole project. Great job.

  3. My sweet Ele, I think that your design is wonderful. Your logo is nice, specially the long line crossing the text box is an amazing idea. The business cards is well aligned and the color scheme is simply nice.

Consider to leave me a comment on my blog.

    Hi Ele,
I enjoyed your stationery. Now I want to travel to Japan 🙂
I like the pink color you used in your design, and also I can see that you love flowers.
You always think in all the aspects of the projects, for example separating your own info from the info of the company. I like the repetition at the bottom of your letterhead, and I noticed that you reduced the lines of it, after you received the critic to do that.
    Great Job 🙂
Here is the link to my project in case you have some minutes to take a look of it.

This is truly impressive! Your font and flower symbol do a wonderful job conveying an oriental vibe while still implying exotic elements like you might see in a Hawaiian travel brochure. I’m curious what the back of the business card might have looked like with the same row of flowers underneath the company title (it looks great on the front of the card!), but the center alignment is surprisingly effective given how you’ve balanced the elements!

Give my design a look when you have a moment 🙂
