Description

For this project we had to create a two-sided, folding brochure using Adobe InDesign. We could choose any subject that we wanted as well as any shape or size. We also had to create a logo for this project using Adobe Illustrator and incorporate it into our design.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills)

I started the process by coming up with different company or subject ideas and then drawing out on paper some possible designs. I decided to have the focus of my design be on saving bees and I went looking for related images as well as came up with an appropriate color scheme. I digitized my logo in Illustrator and then placed it into a two-page InDesign file. I decided to make my brochure an odd shape, a hexagon, to mimic the shape of a honeycomb. Because of the odd shape I decided to design my brochure on an 11″ x 17″ page so that when it was folded it wouldn’t be too small.

After getting my basic layout and receiving some feedback I decided to make some adjustments to my typography and move some things around on my cover page. The hardest part of this project was getting it printed and aligned properly. I ran several different prints in black and white first, adjusted my file so that it would match up and then printed a final one in color. I then cut out my brochure by hand and scored the folds.

Message

My brochure is an informational brochure with 3 tips on how to help the bee population in your neighborhood since bee’s are currently in a population crisis.

Audience

The audience would be anyone who doesn’t know about the mass die-offs of bees around the world as well as those who are interested in helping the bee population.

Top Thing Learned

I think one of the best things I learned from this project is to have a backup plan. Since I knew that this was an odd shaped design, I took my laptop with me to the copy shop just in case it wasn’t aligning correctly when printed. I knew that if it was off I could just adjust my file according to how off it was and then reprint. Having your resources with you when you are going to print makes life a lot less stressful.

Color Scheme and Color Names

The color scheme that I used was a Complementary color scheme with Blue and Orange/Yellow as my main colors.

Blue, #24408e

Light Yellow, #e5d788

Yellow, #e5c76c

Orange, #d8762b

  2. This is super creative Ele. Your brochure looks so professional, I think a legit company would use it. There is nothing I don’t like about your brochure, You obviously worked very hard on it and it paid off. Good good job. Your color scheme is perfectly spread out and your font is easy to read and very flavorful. Everything is lined up and gestalt. Great work, I hope you get at least a 95%
